Warum eine Plattenfirma diese CD mit Aufnahmen von 1992 & 1994 veröffentlicht, wird nicht klar ersichtlich, außer man weiß, dass Tatjana Geringas 2020 fünfundsiebzig Jahre alt wurde. Das setzt allerdings voraus, dass man diese Pianistin, die Ehefrau des Cellisten David Geringas, auch kennt. Die CD nennt sich The Art of the Duo, was alles und nichts heißt. Vergisst man einmal die Sinnhaftigkeit oder Sinnlosigkeit dieses Verkaufstitels, so erkennt man zumindest ein außergewöhnliches und ansprechendes Programm: Die Cellosonaten von Shostakovich, Schnittke und Schulhoff sowie die Humoresque von Rostropovich machen diese CD hoch interessant. Hinzu kommt der großartige Klang von David Geringas Cello, der sich stilsicher und sehr expressiv auf bekanntem Terrain bewegt. Leider entspricht das Klavierspiel von Tatjana Geringas nicht dem interpretatorischen Niveau ihres Gatten, der manchmal seichte und formlose Anschlag ist manchmal sogar recht ärgerlich.
Why a record company is releasing this CD with recordings from 1992 & 1994 is not clearly evident, unless you know that Tatjana Geringas turned seventy-five in 2020. However, that presupposes that one also knows this pianist, the wife of cellist David Geringas. The CD is called The Art of the Duo, which means everything and nothing. If one forgets the meaningfulness or meaninglessness of this sales title, one at least recognises an extraordinary and appealing programme: the cello sonatas by Shostakovich, Schnittke and Schulhoff as well as the Humoresque by Rostropovich make this CD highly interesting. In addition, there is the magnificent sound of David Geringas’ cello. The cellist’s playing is stylish and very expressive throughout the entire program which must be very familiar to him. Unfortunately, Tatjana Geringas’ piano playing does not match her husband’s interpretative level; the sometimes shallow and formless is sometimes even quite annoying.
