The criticism of the appointment procedure for the post of rector of the Franz Liszt Academy in Hungary, is also being echoed internationally. The responsible minister received numerous letters of support for the Academy in recent weeks, according to Hungarian media reports.
« It is with great dismay that the international reputation and importance of the Franz Liszt Academy of Music is being called into question, » writes Johannes Meissl of the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. The vice rector for International Relations and the Arts explains that the Budapest Academy of Music has long been an important partner of her university.
« As one of the most prestigious higher education institutions in this field, we choose very carefully the institutions with which we cooperate intensively. We hope to maintain our excellent relationship and continue our collaboration with the Academy of Music in the future! » wrote Meissl.
Support for filling the rector’s post with integrity also came from James Gandre, president of the Manhattan School of Music, from the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance (JAMD) as well as from other countries.
