Irish soprano Miriam Murphy died last Friday in London at the age of 48. She was the first prize winner at the Seattle International Wagner Competition and subsequently returned to Seattle to perform in Wagner’s Ring cycle. Following her debut at London’s Royal Opera House as Lady Macbeth in Verdi’s Macbeth, she went to sing roles at some of the world’s top opera houses, Opéra national de Paris, Glyndebourne Festival Opera, Seattle Opera, Wexford Festival Opera, Welsh National Opera, Opera North, ABAO Bilbao Opera and Opéra de Lille.
