American mezzo-soprano Jamie Barton (34) has won the Richard Tucker Award. The $50,000 prize commemorates the great American tenor. Barry Tucker, president of the Richard Tucker Music Foundation described the singer as having a ‘once-in-a-generation voice.’
Furtermore the Foundation has given Career grants of $10,000 to the bass-baritone Brandon Cedel, the tenor Benjamin Bliss and the bass-baritone Michael Sumuel; study grants of $5,000 were awarded to the soprano Julie Adams, the soprano D’Ana Lombard, the baritone Sean Michael Plumb and the baritone Reginald Smith Jr.
