The Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra has announced that its Music Director Mariss Jansons has withdrawn on medical recommendation from conducting tomorrow night’s concert (Nov 13th) at the National Performing Arts Centre in Beijing. On 7 November, the Orchestra embarked on the last and longest leg of its world tour, with concerts in Russia, China, Japan and – for the very first time in its history – Australia. This veritable tour de force was obviously too much for Jansons, known for his fragile health. He is to be replaced by the young Scottish conductor Rory Macdonald who is traveling with the orchestra as cover conductor for Maestro Jansons.
