Violinist Joshua Bell will be a judge for the Miss America Contest 2014. The show will be organized in Atlantic City, New Jersey, on September 15. Bell will be one of seven judges who vote to crown Miss America 2014. Joining him on the panel will be pop singer Lance Bass; basketball player Amar’e Stoudemire; comedian and actor Mario Cantone; Barbara Corcoran, the real estate mogul turned investor on ABC’s show ‘Shark Tank’; Carla Hall, co-host of ABC’s food show ‘The Chew’; and Deidre Downs Gunn, an obstetrician and gynecologist.
A statement from the ‘Miss America Organization’ explains: « Accomplished in their respective fields, these national judges are experts in areas where today’s young women excel. » That’s perfectly right for Bell, since female violinists often gain recognition because of their appearance and in a lesser way because of their musicality.
