Je ein Beitrag zur Gattung des Doppel- und des Tripelkonzerts von Kalevi Aho (geb. 1949) sind auf dieser SACD zu hören.
Das Doppelkonzert für Englischhorn, Harfe und Orchester entwickelt sich aus der Stille über virtuose und aufgewühlte Passagen in die Stille zurück. Dabei kann das Orchester auch ganz stark dominieren und den Soloinstrumenten das Leben schwer machen.
Das Tripelkonzert hat einen ganz anderen, durchwegs positiven Charakter, der höchstens mal melancholisch und träumerisch wird. Grundsätzlich geht es um Ahos Enkelin Matilda und ein Wiegenlied, das der Finne für sie schrieb und im Tripelkonzert immer wieder verwendet. Neben einem Andante, einem Tranquillo misterioso und einem Andante gibt es Presto- und Allegro molto-Teile in diesem Konzert, das ruhige, besinnliche Musik einer sehr dynamischen und quirligen gegenüberstellt.
Sehr gute Interpretationen und eine wie bei BIS üblich exzellente Tonaufnahme lassen Kalevi Ahos Musik im besten Klang erscheinen.
One contribution each to the genre of the Double Concerto and the Triple Concerto by Kalevi Aho (b. 1949) are heard on this SACD.
The Double Concerto for cor anglais, harp and orchestra develops from silence through virtuosic and agitated passages back to silence. In the process, the orchestra can also dominate quite strongly and make life difficult for the solo instruments.
The Triple Concerto has a completely different, thoroughly positive character, which at most becomes melancholy and dreamy at times. Basically, it is about Aho’s granddaughter Matilda and a lullaby that the Finn wrote for her and uses repeatedly in the Triple Concerto. In addition to an Andante, a Tranquillo misterioso and an Andante, there are Presto and Allegro molto sections in this concerto that juxtaposes quiet, contemplative music with very dynamic and lively one.
Very good interpretations and an excellent sound recording, as usual with BIS, make Kalevi Aho’s music sound at its best.
