Eliette von Karajan, 80, the widow of conductor Herbert von Karajan, has handed over her board responsibilities at the Herbert von Karajan Easter Festival Salzburg Foundation to her two daughters Isabel and Arabel Karajan, according to a press release. The foundation’s board of directors will thus consist of the two daughters and the previous board members Karl-Ludwig Vavrovsky and Matthias Röder. Herbert von Karajan, one of the most important conductors of the 20th century, established the Salzburg-based Herbert von Karajan Easter Festival Foundation Salzburg in 1969.
His wife has led the organization for many years as its CEO. The aim of the foundation is to promote the Salzburg Easter Festival, which was founded by Karajan himself, but it also supports science in researching the psychological and physiological foundations of musical life.
Eliette von Karajan remains honorary President of the Foundation.
