Karl-Heinz Steffens

The Norwegian National Opera & Ballet announced the appointment of Karl-Heinz Steffens (*1961) as Music Director as from the next season on. Steffens is also Music Director of the Deutsche Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland-Pfalz. He began his career as a clarinettist. In 2001, he was appointed Professor in Clarinet at the Hanns Eisler School of Music Berlin, where he taught until 2008. In 2007, Karl-Heinz Steffens relinquished his post as Principal Clarinet of the Berlin Philharmonic and his international solo career and devoted himself to conducting and to taking up the position of General Music Director of the Staatskapelle and Opera Halle (2007-2013).
