Japanese conductor Kazushi Ono will take over the musical leadership of the ‘Orquestra Simfònica de Barcelona i Nacional de Catalunya’ from September 2015. According to the Orchestra’s General Manager François Bou, Ono’s appointment has been based on the following criteria: “His ability to help orchestras develop and blossom, his maturity and experience, his knowledge of a wide range of repertoire, his international stature and his respect and understanding of Catalonia.”
Kazushi Ono has described the ‘Orquestra Simfònica de Barcelona i Nacional de Catalunya’ as « the Mediterranean miracle for its musicality, discipline, sound and color which is due to the blend of different nationalities and cultures of the musicians that form the orchestra. »
Barcelona Symphony Orchestra has signed a 5-year renewable contract with Ono, who is the current Principal Conductor of the ‘Opéra National de Lyon’. Ono has also been appointed Music Director designate of the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra with effect from April 2015.
The current Music Director of the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra, Pablo González, will terminate his 5-year contract in July 2015.
