Nach einer ersten Einspielung mit Les Siècles im Jahre 2009 (Actes Sud) hat François Xavier Roth die Symphonie Fantastique erneut auf den Leisten genommen. Das Resultat ist phänomenal.

Roth versucht sich nicht in einer weiteren Deutung der Symphonie, und es geht ihm auch nicht darum, die elegant, raffiniert und kraftvoll-mächtig interpretierte Musik als Showstück zu inszenieren. Er kehrt zur Musik und nur zu ihr zurück. Zusammen mit seinem Orchester auf Originalinstrumenten seziert er die Partitur wie kaum ein anderer Dirigent zuvor, um sie nahtlos zu einem phantastischen Ganzen zusammenzufügen. Selbst das kleinste Detail hat der Dirigent nicht außer Acht gelassen. Und so ist diese Symphonie Fantastique zunächst einmal klanglich ein Ereignis, allein schon wegen der Instrumente und ihrer Timbrierung, die dem Ganzen einen besonderen Anstrich gibt.

Aber auch ohne gestalterisch irgendetwas zu übertreiben, ist die Fantastique in ihrer Dramatik und in ihren Stimmungen dämonisch, fiebrig, spannungsvoll und damit eine der besten Aufnahmen dieser Komposition.

After a first recording with Les Siècles in 2009 (Actes Sud), François Xavier Roth returns to the Symphonie Fantastique. The result is phenomenal.
Roth does not try to get new aspects from the music, nor is he interested in staging the elegant, refined and powerfully perfomed music as a showpiece. He returns to the music and only to it. Together with his orchestra on original instruments, he dissects the score like hardly any other conductor before to seamlessly combine it into a fantastic whole. Even the smallest detail has not been ignored by the conductor. And so this Symphonie Fantastique is first and foremost a great sound experience, due to a brilliant conductor and to the instruments and their timbre, which give the music a special touch.
But even without exaggerating anything, Roth’s Fantastique is demonic, feverish, and thrilling in its drama and moods, and has to be counted among the best recordings of this work.
