Sowohl die britische Komponistin Rebecca Clarke 1886-1979) als auch ihr früh verstorbener Landsmann William Busch (1901-1945) haben nur gerade so viele Klavierstücke komponiert, dass sie alle auf eine CD passen. Es sind pianistisch und musikalisch interessante, wenn auch nicht überwältigende Kompositionen. Bei Busch stellt man oft eine beseelte Warme und eine schillernde Farbenvielfalt fest sowie, vor allem in den Nicholas-Variationen, eine prägnante Rhythmik. Clarkes sehr kunstvolle, impressionistische Kompositionen haben einen gefälligen Charme.
Simon Callaghan bewegt sich stilistisch sicher und sehr ausdrucksvoll durch dieses Programm, aus dem er wohl ein Maximum herausnimmt und den musikalischen Diskurs nie erlahmen lässt.
Both British composer Rebecca Clarke 1886-1979) and her compatriot William Busch (1901-1945), who died at an early age, composed only just enough piano pieces to fit them all on one CD. They are pianistically and musically interesting, yet not overwhelming compositions. With Busch, one often notes a soulful warmth and a dazzling variety of color as well as, especially in the Nicholas Variations, a concise rhythm. Clarke’s very artful, impressionistic compositions have a pleasing charm
Simon Callaghan moves stylistically confidently and very expressively through this program, from which he arguably draws maximum effect and never allows the musical discourse to flag.
