Konzeptalben sind in, ebenso wie gemischte Programme. Das ist oft interessant, muss aber nicht immer gutgehen. So wie bei dieser CD mit dem Titel The Mozart/Nyman Concert des Pianisten Sebastian Knauer. Hier werden zwischen Mozart-Sätze jeweils Nymans Six Piano Pieces eingefügt. Das ist nicht wirklich überzeugend, zumal Michael Nymans Stücke, die übrigens von Sebastian Knauer in Auftrag gegeben wurden, wenig interessant und ziemlich repetitiv sind. Und Nyman, der vor allem als Filmmusikkomponist bekannt ist, sich aber auch der Kunstmusik zugehörig fühlt, auf eine Stufe mit Mozart zu stellen, na ja… . Sicher, die CD lässt sich angenehm anhören und Sebastian Knauer zeigt bei Mozart, welch hervorragender Pianist er ist und wie wunderbar er Mozart spielen und interpretieren kann. Das ist aber zu wenig, um diese CD wirklich schätzen zu können. Auch der Titel ist etwas irreführend, es handelt sich bei dieser Einspielung nicht um ein Live-Konzert sondern eine Studioaufnahme.
Concept albums are in, as are mixed programs. This is often interesting, but doesn’t always have to go well. This is the case with this CD entitled The Mozart/Nyman Concert by pianist Sebastian Knauer. Here, Nyman’s Piano Pieces are inserted between some Mozart movements. This is not really convincing, especially since Michael Nyman’s pieces, which by the way were commissioned by Sebastian Knauer, are not very interesting and quite repetitive. And to put Nyman, who is best known as a composer of film music, but who also feels he belongs to art music, on a par with Mozart, well… . Sure, the CD is pleasant to listen to and Sebastian Knauer shows with his Mozart nibbles what an excellent pianist he is. But that is too little to really appreciate this CD. Also the title is a bit misleading, this recording is not a live concert but a studio recording.
