Die Hary Janos-Suite gehört zu den bekanntesten Werken von Zoltan Kodaly (1882-1967). JoAnn Faletta geht das Werk mit großsymphonischem Klang an, wird aber für meinen Geschmack dem feinen Humor und dem idiomatischen Charakter der Musik nicht ganz gerecht. Da ist der Hörer bei Ferenc Fricsay und Adam Fischer besser aufgehoben.
Sehr schön und stimmungsvoll gelingt der Dirigentin die Tondichtung Sommerabend, aber in der Symphonie bleibt sie vordergründig, ganz auf effektvolles und brillantes Musizieren fokussiert. Auch in diesem Werk zeigen andere Dirigenten, Ferenc Fricsay und Antal Dorati, was Falletta an rhetorischer Kraft verpasst. Ihr amerikanisierter Kodaly kann mir nicht gefallen.
The Hary Janos Suite is one of the best known works by Zoltan Kodaly (1882-1967). JoAnn Faletta approaches the work with a grand-symphonic sound, but for my taste does not quite do justice to the subtle humor and idiomatic character of the music. The listener is better off with Ferenc Fricsay and Adam Fischer.
The conductor succeeds very beautifully and atmospherically in the tone poem Summer Evening, but in the Symphony she remains superficial, entirely focused on effective and brilliant music-making. Also in this work, other conductors, Ferenc Fricsay and Antal Dorati, show what Falletta misses in rhetorical power. Her Americanized Kodaly fails to appeal to me.
