In September, the Komische Oper Berlin will open its season with Hans Werner Henze’s Das Floss der Medusa (The raft of Medusa), which will be performed in a gigantic hangar at the disused Tempelhof airport.
While, during the 7-year-long renovation of its house, Komische Oper will mainly use the Schiller Theater in the Charlottenburg district, several other locations have been taken in consideration, among those this airport.
The oratorio The Raft of the Medusa by Hans Werner Henze, inspired by the painting by Géricault exhibited in the Louvre, will be given from September 16 to 30, 2023, directed by Tobias Kratzer. It is a large-scale work that will bring together 82 musicians, a hundred choristers, 3 solo singers and more than 40 extras.
