Dmitri Kabalevsky (1904-1987) war ein Traditionalist und ein Mitläufer der Kommunisten. In seinem Segment aber schrieb er gute und einfallsreiche Musik.Der Pianist Michael Korstick hat jetzt seine kompletten Präludien aufgenommen. Mit 45 Minuten bilden die Präludien op. 38 das wichtigste Werk der CD. Es sind ihrer 24 und sie sind äußerst abwechslungsreich. Poetische Adagios und Andantinos stehen zwischen rasanten Scherzandos. Für beide Sorten hat Korstick das richtige Gespür und eine Gestaltungskunst, die als phänomenal bezeichnet werden kann. Wie anders könnte man so feinsinnige und atmosphärische Stücke erleben, neben regelrechten Ländlern oder jenem 2. Präludium, das nicht bloß motorisch gespielt wird, sondern mit jazzigem Swing.

Ob hochvirtuos oder poetisch, Korstick wird diesen wie auch den übrigen, in kleineren Zyklen gebündelten Präludien mit einer sprühenden Phantasie vollauf gerecht und bietet faszinierenden Pianismus mit großem Unterhaltungswert.

But in his segment he wrote good and imaginative music.The pianist Michael Korstick has now recorded his complete Preludes. With a duration of 45 minutes, the Preludes op. 38 are the most important work on the cpo CD. The 24 miniatures are extremely varied. Poetic Adagios and Andantinos stand between racy Scherzandos. For both types Korstick has the right feeling and a lot of creative ideas. How else could one experience such subtle and atmospheric pieces, next to real Ländlers or that 2nd Prelude, which is not only played motorically, but with jazzy swing.
Whether highly virtuosic or poetic, Korstick does full justice to these preludes, as well as to the other preludes bundled in smaller cycles. With a sparkling imagination he offers fascinating pianism with great entertainment value.
