Polish conductor Krzysztof Urbanski, 41, will become the new Artistic Director of the Warsaw Philharmonic, the Polish Radio announced. His five-year contract begins at the start of the 2024/25 season. He will be the successor of Andrzej Boreyko, who began his tenure in 2019. Urbanski will be the youngest conductor at the helm of this orchestra in its post-war history.
A graduate of the Music Academy in Warsaw in 2007, Urbański first served for two years as assistant conductor with the Warsaw Philharmonic. Hemwas Music Director of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra from 2011 to 2021 and worked closely with the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra and NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchester.
In September 2023 he Board of Trustees of Bühnen Bern has elected Krzysztof Urbanski as the new principal conductor of the Bern Symphony Orchestra. He is scheduled to take up his post in the summer of 2024.
