Gershwin und Copland für Bläserseptett
Das britische Brass Septett Septura hat für die siebte Folge seiner erfolgreichen Naxos-Reihe Transkriptionen von Gershwins An American in Paris und Three Preludes sowie von Coplands Quiet City und Appalachian Spring Suite aufgenommen. Das sehr virtuose Spiel von Septura beeindruckt, auch wenn die Transkriptionen an sich für das Repertoire gewiss nicht unabdingbar sind. – For the seventh installment of its successful Naxos series, the British brass septet Septura has recorded transcriptions of Gershwin’s An American in Paris and Three Preludes, as well as Copland’s Quiet City and Appalachian Spring Suite. Septura’s very virtuosic playing is impressive, even if the transcriptions themselves are certainly not indispensable to the repertoire. (Naxos 8.574238) – ♪♪♪♪

Die amerikanisch-kubanische Sopranistin Lisette Oropesa singt ein Programm mit ausschließlich Konzertarien von Mozart auf Pentatone, 10 am Stück. Ob das eine gute Idee war, wage ich zu bezweifeln, denn mit der Zeit wird das Programm monoton, und das obwohl die Sängerin wunderbar singt, virtuos und dramatisch, mit stupender Technik, wenn auch vielleicht mit zu wenig gestalterischer Diversifizierung. Das verstärkt den Eindruck mangelnder Abwechslung. Mozart hat ja schließlich diese Konzertarien auch nicht geschrieben, um sie alle an einem Abend hintereinander aufführen zu lassen. – The American-Cuban soprano Lisette Oropesa sings a program with exclusively concert arias by Mozart on Pentatone, 10 at a time. Whether this was a good idea, I dare to doubt, because with time the program becomes monotonous, and this although the singer sings wonderfully, virtuosic and dramatic, with stupendous technique, though perhaps with too little creative diversification. This reinforces the impression of a lack of variety. After all, Mozart did not write these concert arias to have them all performed on one evening. (Pentatone PTC 5186885) – ♪♪♪
Piazzolla in sehr speziellem Klangkleid
Im Piazzolla-Jahr sprießen die Piazzolla-CDs wie die Pilze bei feuchtem Wetter. Der tschechische Hornist Radek Baborek hat mit seinem Orquestrina Bearbeitungen von Tomas Ille und von ihm selber aufgenommen. Das ergibt einen sehr besonderen Sound, effektvoll und mitunter auch etwas demonstrativ. Zuviel Show, für meinen Geschmack! – In the Piazzolla year, Piazzolla CDs are sprouting like mushrooms in wet weather. Czech hornist Radek Baborek has recorded arrangements by Tomas Ille and himself with his Orquestrina. This results in a very special sound, effective and sometimes a bit demonstrative. Palmeris Misa Tango aus Brüssel
Das belgische Ensemble Astoria und das Brüsseler The New Baroque Times Voices legen bei Antartica eine aufgefrischte Version der Misa Tango des argentinischen Komponisten Martin Palmeri vor. Die ungewöhnliche Mischung von sakraler Musik und Tango wird mit neuen Rollenverteilungen farbiger, intensiver und emotionaler sowie auch moderner als in anderen Aufnahmen der Messe. – The Belgian ensemble Astoria and the Brussels based The New Baroque Times Voices present a refreshed version of Argentine composer Martin Palmeri’s Misa Tango on Antartica. The unusual blend of sacred music and tango is made more colorful, intense, and emotional with new role assignments, as well as more modern than in other recordings of the Mass.
