Musik für den Heiligen Jakobus
Das Ensemble Vox Cantoris hat aus den Archiven der Kathedrale von Mexico-City ein Programm mit dem Titel ‘Vêpres de Saint Jacques Nouvelle Espagne 16e-18e s.’ zusammengestellt. Das Fest des Heiligen Jakobus, des Schutzpatrons Spaniens, wurde in Mexiko mit großem Pomp gefeiert. Und so hatte Jean-Christophe Landau, der Leiter des französischen Ensembles Vox Cantoris, eigentlich nur die Qual der Wahl, um dieses Programm mit Werken spanischer und mexikanischer Komponisten zusammenzubauen. Er hat eine Jakobusvesper rekonstruiert, wie sie zwischen dem 16. und 18. Jahrhundert in der mexikanischen Hauptstadt hätte stattfinden können. Die Pracht dieser Musik kommt in den Interpretationen von Vox Cantoris vollauf zur Geltung. Die chorisch gut ausgewogenen, solistisch ebenfalls exzellenten Stimmen, Landaus Stilgefühl und auch die außergewöhnlich guten Tonaufnahme machen diese CD zu einem beglückenden Erlebnis. – The ensemble Vox Cantoris has compiled from the archives of the Cathedral of Mexico City a program entitled ‘Vêpres de Saint Jacques Nouvelle Espagne 16e-18e s.’. The feast of Saint James, the patron saint of Spain, was celebrated with great pomp in Mexico. And so Jean-Christophe Landau, director of the French ensemble Vox Cantoris, was really just spoiled for choice in putting together this program of works by Spanish and Mexican composers. He has reconstructed a Vespers of St. James that could have taken place in the Mexican capital between the 16th and 18th centuries. The splendor of this music is on full display in Vox Cantoris’ interpretations. The chorally well-balanced voices, which are also excellent as soloists, Landau’s sense of style, and also the exceptionally good sound recording make this CD a delightful experience. Chormusik von César Franck
Der Chœur de Chambre de Namur singt unter der Leitung von Thibaut Lenaerts 20 Chöre von César Franck. Das Programm enthält mehrere Erstaufnahmen und ist, aufs Ganze gesehen, sehr attraktiv. Die Interpretationen der teils geistlichen, teils weltlichen Chöre sind hervorragend. Der Kammerchor von Namur besticht durch seine Plastizität, Geschmeidigkeit und Transparenz. – The Chœur de Chambre de Namur sings 20 choruses by César Franck under the direction of Thibaut Lenaerts. The program comprises several first recordings and, taken as a whole, is very attractive. The interpretations of the partly sacred, partly secular choirs are excellent. Mahler und Strauss aus Monte Carlo
Das Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo hat für sein eigenes Label OPMC die Alpensinfonie von Richard Strauss aufgenommen. Beeindruckend virtuos in den bewegten Teilen der Komposition, bleibt die Interpretation den ruhigeren Passagen doch recht viel an Atmosphäre schuldig. Zusätzlich gibt es eine entspannt dirigierte und feinfühlig gespielte Aufnahme von Mahlers Blumine zu hören. – The Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo has recorded Richard Strauss’ Alpine Symphony for its own OPMC label. Impressively virtuosic in the faster parts of the composition, the interpretation owes quite a bit of atmosphere to the quieter passages. Musik für eine Masque
Die Ramée-CD ‘An Evening at the Theatre’ rekonstruiert den musikalischen Teil einer Masque, wie sie in Londoner Theatersälen Ende des 17. Jahrhunderts beliebt waren. Auf dem Programm stehen Werke von Playford, Lawes, Matteis, van Eyck, Locke und Hume. Neben einem geschmackvollen spieltechnischen Raffinement, bringen die Musiker um die Blockflötistin Marion Fermé eine enorme Spielfreude in diese Musik ein, eine Freude, die sich überträgt und die uns ein wahres Vergnügen bereitet hat, dieser Produktion zuzuhören. – The Ramée CD ‘An Evening at the Theatre’ reconstructs the musical part of a masque as they were popular in London theaters at the end of the 17th century. The program includes works by Playford, Lawes, Matteis, van Eyck, Locke and Hume. In addition to a tasteful technical playing refinement, the musicians around recorder player Marion Fermé bring an enormous joy of playing to this music, a joy that is transmitted and that gave us a real pleasure to listen to this production.
