Es lebe das Piccolo
Viva Piccolo nennt sich eine CD von Calliope, auf der Jean-Louis Beaumadier, am Klavier begleitet von Véronique Poltz, bekannte Stücke auf dem Piccolo spielt, von Ungarischen Tänzen von Brahms, über Liebesleid von Fritz Kreisler bis zur Flötensonate KV 14 von Mozart und dem Tanz der seligen Geister von Gluck. Der Musiker, den Jean-Pierre Rampal ‘Paganini des Piccolo’ genannt hat, brilliert mit sicherer Tongebung und einem Spiel, das einen recht warmen Klang hat und auch in der Höhe nicht aggressiv klingt. – Viva Piccolo is the name of a CD by Calliope on which Jean-Louis Beaumadier, accompanied on the piano by Véronique Poltz, plays well-known pieces on the piccolo, from Hungarian Dances by Brahms, to Liebesleid by Fritz Kreisler, the Flute Sonata KV 14 by Mozart and the Dance of the Blessed Spirits by Gluck. The musician, whom Jean-Pierre Rampal has called ‘Paganini of the piccolo’, shines with a secure tone and playing that has a rather warm sound and does not sound aggressive even in the high register. Bach, Ligeti und Kodaly und armenische Lieder
Auf einem neuen Album bei Alpha verbindet die französisch-armenische Cellistin Astrig Siranossian Musik von Bach (Auszüge aus den Cellosuiten) sowie die Solosonaten von Kodaly und Ligeti mit armenischen Liedern, die sie nicht nur spielt, sondern mit angenehmer Stimme auch singt. Die Aufnahmen wurde auf zwei Celli gemacht, einem Cello von Ruggieri aus dem Jahr 1676 und dem Gagliano ‘Sir John Barbirolli’ aus dem Jahr 1756. Dabei begeistert vor allem die sehr persönliche, ausdrucksvolle und technisch stupende Interpretation der Ligeti-Sonate. – On a new album on Alpha, French-Armenian cellist Astrig Siranossian combines music by Bach (excerpts from the cello suites) and the solo sonatas by Kodaly and Ligeti with Armenian songs, which she not only plays but also sings with a pleasant voice. The recordings were made on two cellos, a cello by Ruggieri from 1676 and the Gagliano ‘Sir John Barbirolli’ from 1756, and the very personal, expressive and technically stupendous interpretation of the Ligeti sonata is particularly impressive. Olafsson schwelgt in Erinnerungen
Mit seinem neuen Album From Afar gibt uns der isländische Pianist Vikingur Olafsson angeblich einen Einblick in seine musikalische Lebensgeschichte. Das Doppelalbum versammelt Kindheitserinnerungen, und auch rezentere Inspirationen. Die Miniaturen sind zwischen einer und fünf Minuten lang, mit Musik von Bach, Mozart, Schumann, Brahms Bartok, Kurtag und Adès, neben isländischen und ungarischen Volksliedern, in eigenen Transkriptionen. Das Besondere ist, dass das Programm auf der ersten CD auf einem Konzertflügel und auf der zweiten auf einem mit Filz bespannten Pianino gespielt wird, was der Musik zwei ganz verschiedene Klangfarben gibt. Dabei bereitet der Flügel zweifellos dem Ohr mehr Freude als das Pianino, wenngleich der Pianist die Stücke gleichermaßen sensibel interpretiert. – With his new album From Afar, Icelandic pianist Vikingur Olafsson gives us a glimpse into his musical life story. The double album gathers childhood memories, and also more recent inspirations, miniatures between one and five minutes long, with music by Bach, Mozart, Schumann, Brahms Bartok, Kurtag and Adès, alongside Icelandic and Hungarian folk songs, in his own transcriptions. The special feature is that the program on the first CD is played on a concert grand piano and on the second on an upright piano, which gives the music two quite different timbres. Jodie Devos mit glitzernden Koloraturen
Die belgische Sopranistin Jodie Devos singt bekannte und vor allem wenig bekannte Arien des französischen Repertoires, mit Arien von Victor Masse, Giacomo Meyerbeer, Ambroise Thomas, Jacques Fromental Halévy, Adolphe Adam und Daniel-Francois-Esprit Auber. Sie überzeugt mit glitzernden Koloraturen und einer leichten, silbrigen, aber immer recht warmen Stimme. Der Gesang ist farblich und dynamisch wenig abwechslungsreich und fasziniert vor allem wegen einer grandiosen Technik. Pierre Bleuse dirigiert das brillant und engagiert spielende Brussels Philharmonic. – Belgian soprano Jodie Devos sings well-known and especially little-known arias of the French repertoire, with arias by Victor Masse, Giacomo Meyerbeer, Ambroise Thomas, Jacques Fromental Halévy, Adolphe Adam and Daniel-Francois-Esprit Auber. She convinces with sparkling coloratura and a light, silvery, but always quite warm voice. The singing is not very varied in color and dynamics and fascinates mainly because of a grandiose technique.
