Das ist ein Zeitdokument: Beethovens Vierte in einer todtraurigen Interpretation von Wilhelm Furtwängler. Die Liveaufnahme entstand im Juni 1943 mit den Berliner Philharmonikern. So viel Hoffnungslosigkeit, düstere Töne und Grollen hat man wohl kaum je in einer Vierten gehört. – This is a document of its time: Beethoven’s Fourth in a deeply sad interpretation by Wilhelm Furtwängler. Rachmaninov aus Detroit
Naxos veröffentlicht alle Rachmaninov-Symphonien, die zuvor auf Einzel-CDs mit dem Detroit Symphony und Leonard Slatkin erschienen waren. Slatkin dirigiert ohne jede Effekthascherei, spannend, impulsiv und betont des Komponisten Orchestrierungskunst mit einem sorgfältig ausbalancierten, wohlklingenden und immer sehr vitalen Drive, der das lyrische Fließen in den langsamen Sätzen nicht ausschließt. Das Detroit Symphony spielt mit grandiosem Sound, und die Tonaufnahme ist, was Präsenz und Räumlichkeit anbelangt, kaum zu überbieten. – Naxos releases all the Rachmaninov symphonies previously issued on single CDs with the Detroit Symphony and Leonard Slatkin. Kammermusik von Boris Tishchenko
Boris Tishchenko (1939-2010) wird auf einer CD von Alkonost mit den zwei Streichquartetten Nr. 1 und 5 sowie dem Klavierquintett vorgestellt. Der Shostakovich-Schüler schreibt eine in ihrer Form weitgehend konventionelle Musik, überrascht aber gleichzeitig immer wieder mit ungewöhnlichen Ideen. Das Tchalik Quartett und die Pianistin Dania Tchalik spielen sehr engagiert und ausdrucksvoll, auf hohem technischem Niveau. – Boris Tishchenko (1939-2010) is featured on a CD by Alkonost with the two string quartets Nos. 1 and 5 and the piano quintet. The Shostakovich pupil writes music that is largely conventional in its form, but at the same time surprises again and again with unusual ideas. Auf 10 CDs bringt SWR Classic nun eine Kollektion mit 11 Solisten heraus: Clara Haskil, Jörg Demus, Paul Badura-Skoda, Alicia de Larrocha, Wilhelm Backhaus, Geza Anda, Claudio Arrau, Annie Fischer, Friedrich Gulda, Wilhelm Kempff und Svjatoslav Richter. Es gibt in der Box gute wie aber auch herausragende Interpretationen, und diese sind in der Mehrheit. – The SWR orchestras have made many recordings with famous pianists. Effekthascherisch
Ich bin wahrlich keiner, der verkopfte Neue Musik mag, die nichts zu sagen hat. Aber wenn neue Stücke nur effekthascherisch sind, und entweder mit galoppierender Virtuosität oder nostalgischer Klangschwelgerei aufwarten, lehne ich auch das ab. Zwei solche Stücke gibt es auf einer CD mit zwei Konzerten amerikanischer Komponisten, dem ersten Klavierkonzert von Adolphus Hailstork und dem Violinkonzert Eleven Eleven von Danny Elfman, oberflächlich brillant und wehmütig kantabel, aber eigentlich substanzlos. JoAnn Falletta und das Buffalo Philharmonic bemühen sich. – I’m certainly not someone who likes new music that has nothing to say. But when new pieces are merely gimmicky, and feature either galloping virtuosity or nostalgic sonorities, I reject that, too. There are two such pieces on a CD of two concertos by American composers, the First Piano Concerto by Adolphus Hailstork and the Violin Concerto Eleven Eleven by Danny Elfman, superficially brilliant and wistfully cantabile, but actually insubstantial. Krichels persönlicher Rachmaninov
Unter dem Titel ‘My Rachmaninoff’ veröffentlicht Alexander Krichel ein ganz diesem Komponisten gewidmetes Album bei Berlin Classics. Er überzeugt mit sehr persönlichen Interpretationen, die sehr lebendig sind und zudem auch spontan und manchmal wie improvisatorisch, aber jede überflüssige Dramatik ebenso meiden wie gefährliche Süße. – Under the title ‘My Rachmaninoff’ Alexander Krichel releases an album entirely dedicated to this composer on Berlin Classics. He convinces with very personal interpretations, which are very lively and also spontaneous and sometimes as if improvisational, but avoid any superfluous drama as well as dangerous sweetness.
