Milan’s La Scala has postponed the official opening of its season on 7 December. A new production of Lucia di Lammermoor was planned with Lisette Oropesa in the title role, yet all the performances scheduled for 7 December and the following days are now postponed.
The Board of Directors of Teatro alla Scala decided that due to the current epidemiological situation and the continually tightening regulations, the conditions to produce this opera do no longer exist.
The board has asked Intendant and Artistic Director Dominique Meyer to develop an alternative event which, even without an audience, could be broadcast on television.
