Latvian composer, conductor and pianist Peteris Plakidis died last Tuesday, at the age of 70. Born in 1947 in Riga, Latvia, he studied in his home country. From 1969-1974 Plakidis was musical director at the Latvian National Theatre. Since 1975 he has been a tutor in the composition department at the Latvian Academy of Music, and in 1991 he became professor of composition.
The last CD with works from Plakidis to be reviewed in Pizzicato was recorded by the Carion Quintet.
