Moscow’s legendary Recording Studio on Malaya Nikitskaya Street is threatened with destruction. As from August 25, dismantling and removal of equipment is planned, to be followed by the demotion of the building.
The studio complex on Malaya Nikitskaya Street was built in the late 1930s, and its Fitfth Studio has been named the best in Russia. Many famous recordings by Russian and foreign companies took place in that studio.
Our colleagues from the magazine ‘Musical life’ have published a list of
musicians who appeal to the Russian government « not to allow the liquidation of the world-class production complex and save it, possibly with the transfer to organizations with the corresponding type of activity, for example, the company Melodiya. »
Among the signatories are pianist Alexei Lubimov, who says « Why are the outstanding cultural workers of our country forced to constantly advocate the preservation of cultural monuments, stop the destruction of architectural complexes, museums, historical buildings, reserves, explain to officials things that are obvious to any normal cultural person in Russia? »
Other signatories are conductors Vladimir Jurowski and Mikhail Jurwoski as well as composer Alexander Tchaikovsky and Anton Batagov.
