Robert & Clara Schumann
Leipzig is celebrating the 175th wedding anniversary of the most romantic couple of the 19th century: Robert and Clara Schumann. The annual Schumann Festival Week (5-13 September 2015) is held around their wedding day on 12 September, and Clara’s birthday on 13 September. For the anniversary edition, a special programme has been compiled, starring among others Tobias Koch, one of the most high-profile Schumann pianists, Schumann Award winner Anne-Theresa Møller, US-based Dover Quartet and the David Orlowsky Trio.
The newly weds had moved into their new apartment in Inselstrasse, today known as Schumann House, the day after their wedding. On the wedding day itself (12 September), Schumann House invites to a family festival incl. a wedding carriage, historic dance and live music from 4 pm.
