‘Die ungebornen Enkel’ (The Unborn Grandchildren) ist ein zehnteiliger Liederzyklus des britischen Komponisten und Dirigenten Fabrice Bollon (* 1965). Die vertonten Gedichte stammen vom österreichischen Expressionisten Georg Trakl. Laut dem Label ist dies die allererste Komposition für einen klassische Sänger und elektrisches Solocello.
Bollon geht gestalterisch über den Text hinaus und schafft mit dem Cello eine Art Umgebung für das Gedicht, was dem Soloinstrument eine immens wichtige Rolle gibt, weil es Fassbares, Deskriptives mit Unfassbarem, abstraktem vermischt und so eine einmalige Atmosphäre schafft. Der Zyklus wird dadurch zu einer hochkarätigen und sehr individuellen Komposition, die es sich anzuhören wirklich lohnt. Die beiden Sänger, die koreanische Sopranistin Irina Jae Eun Park und der thailändische Tenor Nutthaporn Thammathi singen mit einem Maximum an Ausdrucksstärke, so dass man diese Bollon-Lieder zusammen mit dem hoch expressiven und intensiven Spiel des Cellisten Johannes Moser zutiefst erleben kann.
The Secret Garden of the Cordania ist der Frau des Komponisten, einer Cellistin, gewidmet. Bollon nutzt die technischen Möglichkeiten des über ein Instrumentenkabel an einen Verstärker mit Effektgerät angeschlossenen Instruments. Dadurch bietet das E-Cello eine ungeheure Vielzahl an Klangmöglichkeiten, die zu einem farbenreichen, stimmungsvollen Werk führen, das den Garten in einer Art Notturno mit allen Facetten der Nacht erkundet.
‘Die ungebornen Enkel’ (The Unborn Grandchildren) is a ten-part song cycle by British composer and conductor Fabrice Bollon (* 1965). The poems set to music are by Austrian expressionist Georg Trakl. According to the label, this is the first-ever composition for classical singer and electric solo cello.
Bollon goes beyond the text and creates with the cello kind of musical environment for the poem, which gives the solo instrument an immensely important role because it mixes the tangible and the descriptive with the intangible, the abstract, creating a unique atmosphere. The cycle thus becomes a top-class and very individual composition, which is really worth listening to. The two singers, the Korean soprano Irina Jae Eun Park and the Thai tenor Nutthaporn Thammathi sing with a maximum of expressiveness, so that one can deeply experience these Bollon songs together with the highly expressive and intense playing of the cellist Johannes Moser.
The Secret Garden of the Cordania is dedicated to the composer’s wife, a cellist. Bollon takes advantage of the technical possibilities of the instrument, which is connected via a cable to an amplifier with an effects unit. As a result, the e-cello offers a tremendous variety of sound possibilities, resulting in a richly colored, atmospheric work that explores the garden in a kind of nocturne with all the facets of the night.
