Italian Far-Right-wing Prime Minister Meloni has issued a government decree stating that super-intendants at the helm of the lyric-symphonic foundations could not be older than 70 years, Stéphane Lissner who is at the helm of Teatro San Carlo in Naples has announced that he is fighting Meloni’s backlash: « I am ready to appeal against the government measure: from Monday my lawyers at work, I am holding out », the Frenchman told Italian media.
Lissner, former number one at La Scala in Milan and the Paris Opéra and now at the San Carlo in Naples, is 70 years old. Moreover, La Scala’s superintendent Dominique Meyer will turn 70 in August 2025, which means that Milan could not renew him after his current contract that will end in April 2025.
