The Luxembourgish ensemble Ad Libitum has been founded by Rosch Mirkes in 2000. It gave its first concert on September 6, 2000 in the Czech Republic. It performs mostly on baroque instruments, but has also been associated to many other projects in Luxembourg and abroad. During the upcoming season the ensemble the ensemble launches a cycle of Bach cantatas. The concerts start on September 22 and the cycle will finish on September 6 next year.
Launched as chamber choir in 2000, Ad Libitum is nowadays an variable ensemble mostly performing with singers and instrumentalists. The ensemble is composed of amateur and professional musicians.
The members of the group are: Jean-Luc Blasius, chalumeau – Anne Clement, recorder, viola da gamba – Laurie Dondlinger, soprano – Guy Goethals, viola – Jean-Paul Hansen, oboe – Roby Lohr, bassoon – Ria Lucas, recorder – Jeff Mack, altus – Caroline Reuter, violin – Roby Stoos, baroque oboe – Jehanne Strepenne, violin – Sabine Vermeersch, traverso – Gaëlle Vien, soprano – Johanna Weirich, violin and Beate Wins, viola da gamba/violone.
Ad Libitum regularly invites laureates from the conservatories of Luxembourg and the Greater Region: Léini Fischer, soprano – Ellen Giacone, soprano – Christine Goethals, soprano – Annemarie Klein, recorder – Sylvie Langehegermann, soprano – Jean-Paul Majerus, bass – Claudine Peters, soprano – Barbara Pierlot, soprano – Franz Schilling, bass – Elena Tanase, soprano.
It has also worked with musicians from the international baroque scene: Idoia Bengoa-Geisler, doulcian – Christina Ewald, recorder – Uwe Haas, sackbut – Jean Halsdorf, cello – Jean-Daniel Haro, violone – Noah Mayer, viola – Kathia Robert, viola – Anna Schall, cornetto – Gilles Thommé, chalumeau – Juan Ullibarri, cornetto – Simen van Mechelen, sackbut – Raphael Vang, sackbut.
Since its creation, Ad Libitum has given around 100 concerts in several European countries, notably in Germany, Belgium, Spain, France, Czech Republic and of course in Luxembourg.
To celebrate its 20th anniversary Ad Libitum is launching a new project in co-production with the Protestant Church: Bach-Kantaten-Zyklus. The 2019/2020 season promises to be a busy one with concerts in Bertrange, Bourscheid, Brandenburg, Eischen, Fünfbrunnen, Luxembourg City, Mont-St Martin, Refrath, Vianden, Waldbillig and the closing concert of the festivities on 6 September 2020.
