The Italian Minister of Culture, Gennaro Sangiuliano, signed the decree appointing Carlo Fuortes as Superintendent of the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino. «I wish good luck to Superintendent Fuortes, who with his mandate is called to relaunch one of the major cultural institutions of the nation, restored thanks to the work of the extraordinary commissioner Onofrio Cutaia to whom I give credit, and to give prestige to its international vocation», declared Minister Sangiuliano.
Carlo Fuortes had been nominated as Stéphane Lissner’s successor at San Carlo in Naples, but the Naples court reinstated Lissner, leaving Fuortes ante portas.
From 2003 to 2015 Fuortes directed the Auditorium Parco della Musica as CEO of the Fondazione Musica per Roma. From 2012 to 2013, he served as Extraordinary Commissioner of the Petruzzelli and Teatri di Bari Opera and Symphony Foundation.
On December 23, 2013, he was appointed Superintendent of the Teatro dell’Opera in Rome.
In 2016, Minister Dario Franceschini appointed him as Extraordinary Commissioner of the Arena di Verona Foundation with the aim of saving the 2016 Arenian season and avoiding the liquidation of the Foundation.
From 2021-2023 he was CEO of RAI.
