The airport Milano Malpensa has been officially named after one of the most controversial Italian politicians, Italy’s Trump Silvio Berlusconi. Now, the superintendent of Milan’s La Scala, Dominique Meyer, has joined the huge number of those signing a petition launched by several Unions to name Malpensa airport after Carla Fracci. The unions asked not to proceed with the naming of the airport after Berlusconi as a « deeply divisive » name. « The name we are proposing, » reads the note sent to companies and institutions, « has conveyed elegance, style and bravura all over the world as the best example of our country’s artistic abilities. She is Carla Fracci, from Milan, formerly Dame di gran croce dell’Ordine al merito della Repubblica italiana; Grand Officer of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic; gold medalist for the merits of culture and art and awarded the title of prima ballerina assoluta by the New York Times. »
