A Court in Malta ordered the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra to pay €168,431 to former conductor, the Malta born Brian Schembri, 63, in wages after his employment contract was terminated. Schembri was employed in 2013 on a 3-year contract which was renewed in 2016. The contract stated that if the contract was terminated, the National Orchestra had to pay 3 years worth of salary. Schembri was dismissed from his role as artistic director and principal conductor of the MPO in 2017.

After hearing both sides, Judge Giovanni Grixti said the company had not managed to prove what it alleged. He ordered the company running the Orchestra to pay him €168,431.
