Die kanadische Altistin Marie-Nicole Lemieux hat eine weit gestreckte Stimme, und die kann diese vorteilhaft in diesem Programm einsetzen, auch wenn die hohen Töne manchmal etwas Schärfe zeigen. Zunächst singt sie auf sehr ausdrucksstarke Weise die Nuits d’Eté, Lieder mit Orchester, die Berlioz auf Gedichte von Théophile Gautier geschrieben hat. Diese Lieder werden in Lemieux’ Interpretation sehr kontrastreich zwischen Intimität und Leidenschaftlichkeit.
Es folgen sechs Mélodies persanes auf Gedichte von Armand Renaud von Camille Saint-Saëns. Der Komponist hat sie nur leicht orientalisch gefärbt. Lemieux singt sie einfühlsam und mit guter dynamischer Qualität. Die Mélodies persanes werden so eloquent vorgetragen.
Die musikalisch ganz anders geartete Shéhérazade von Maurice Ravel singt Marie-Nicole auch mit viel Überzeugungskraft. Sie ist in jedem Moment hundertprozentig empathisch und setzt nie auf vordergründig effektvollen Gesang. Das sind exquisite Interpretationen.
Das Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte Carlo spielt ausgezeichnet unter der inspirierten Leitung von Kazuki Yamada.
The Canadian contralto Marie-Nicole Lemieux has a wide-ranging voice, and she is able to use it to advantage in this program, even if the high notes sometimes show some sharpness. First, she sings in a very expressive manner the Nuits d’Eté, songs with orchestra that Berlioz wrote on poems by Théophile Gautier. These songs become very contrasting between intimacy and passion in Lemieux’s interpretation.
Six Mélodies persanes on poems by Armand Renaud by Camille Saint-Saëns follow. The composer colored them only slightly oriental. Lemieux sings them sensitively and with good dynamic quality. So, the Mélodies persanes are performed eloquently.
The musically quite different Shéhérazade by Maurice Ravel is also sung by Marie-Nicole with much conviction. She is one hundred percent empathetic at every moment and never relies on superficially effective singing. These are exquisite interpretations.
The Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte Carlo plays excellently under the inspired direction of Kazuki Yamada.
