The São Paulo Symphony Orchestra (OSESP) has extended Marin Alsop’s contract as Music Director until December 2019. During this period, her time with the orchestra will increase with a minimum of twelve weeks per year in São Paulo and touring the orchestra internationally, plus time spent teaching and nurturing young musicians at the Campos do Jordão Festival.
Under Alsop’s leadership, the Orchestra has so far released three albums as part of their cycle of the complete symphonies of Prokofiev for Naxos. Future plans include the continuation of the complete cycles of Brahms and Mahler symphonies as well as Marin’s on-going commitment to the work of living composers which will not only include performances of works by John Adams, James MacMillan and Marc-André Dalbavie, but also of Brazilian composers such as Paulo Costa Lima and Clarisse Assad as well as Villa-Lobos, Camargo Guarnieri and Francisco Mignone.
