American conductor Marin Alsop, 63, has been named the first-ever chief conductor and curator of the Ravinia Festival, the oldest outdoor music festival in the United States, with a series of outdoor concerts and performances held every summer from June to September. Located in Highland Park, Illinois, the festival operates on the grounds of the 36-acre (15 ha) Ravinia Park, with a variety of outdoor and indoor performing arts facilities.
Marin Alsop is chief conductor of the ORF Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra. In addition, she continues as music director of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra.
