Musicians of the Athens State Orchestra have been told that a special concert with pianist Martha Argerich on July 15 has been cancelled due to health problems of the pianist. Before, Argerich already cancelled her appearances in Sydney scheduled for 29 and 30 June, as well as Saturday 1 July.
The Athens event was particularly appealing. Conducted by Stefanos Tsialis, the Athens State Orchestra was to accompany Martha Argerich, in a concert at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus. The pianist would have been joined by her student Theodosia Ntokou in Poulenc’s Double concerto and by her daughter, French actress Annie Dutoit, in Saint-Saëns’s Carnaval des Animaux. Greek pianist Dora Bakopoulou, a personal friend of Martha Argerich, was to perform as special guest of the concert.
