The Melbourne Symphony, which had cancellede a performance by pianist Jayson Gillham because of his anti-Israeli remarks made during a concert, was heavily criticized by pro-Palestinian activists. The orchestra subsequently apologized and said it had made a mistake by cancelling Gillham’s performance. This, in turn, has drawn the ire of the Jewish community in Australia. A statement said: « If the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra wants to engage in anti-Israel activism, why on earth would Jewish donors continue to support them? »
