Like many opera houses and orchestras closed due to coronavirus the Met Opera in New York is broadcasting free streams on its website every evening. Under the name Nightly Met Opera Streams, the Metropolitan will broadcast recordings made in the Live in HD series normally presented live in cinemas.
« We want to give these moments of comfort to all opera lovers in these extremely difficult times, » said Met Director General Peter Gelb in a statement. Each opera will be available for 20 hours on the Met website (metopera.org) and on Met Opera on Demand applications. It is reported that streaming of the operas will continue as long as the Met is closed.
Today, Tuesday, March 17 the Met is broadcasting a 2008 production of Puccini’s La Bohème, conducted by Nicola Luisotti, starring Angela Gheorghiu and Ramón Vargas.
