For financial reasons, the Metropolitan Opera cancelled next season’s production of Verdi’s ‘La Forza del Destino,’ which was to be staged by Calixto Bieito. According to General Manager Peter Gelb this will save about $1 million. While ‘Forza’ has been postponed indefinitely it will be replaced by four concerts of Verdi’s Requiem led by music director emeritus James Levine.
