The Florida Orchestra announces Michael Francis as its new music director starting with the 2015/2016 season, and serving as music director designate for the upcoming 2014/2015 season. He is the successor to Stefan Sanderling. The former LSO double bass player is also Chief Conductor and Artistic Advisor to Sweden’s Norrköping Symphony Orchestra.
Based in St.Petersburg, the Florida Orchestra performs nearly 100 concerts annually in the tri-city area of Tampa, Clearwater, and St. Petersburg. Although Francis’s primary role is with the Tampa Bay Times Masterworks series, he will also conduct one concert each season on the Raymond James Pops and the Morning Coffee Concert series. This reflects Michael Francis’ personal desire to be fully-integrated artistically with the orchestra and the organization.
