Michael Schønwandt

Didier Deschamps, president, and Valérie Chevalier, general manager of the National Orchestra Montpellier Occitanie, have announced the renewal of Michael Schønwandt’s contract as principal conductor until June 2021. The Danish conductor has this job since September 2015.
Born in Copenhagen in 1953, Michael Schønwandt was Music Director of the Royal Opera of Copenhagen and the Royal Orchestra of Denmark (2000-2011), and also served as Music Director of the Berliner Sinfonie-Orchester (1992-1998), chief conductor of Netherland Radio Chamber Philharmonic Orchestra (2010-2013), first guest conductor of La Monnaie in Brussels (1984-1987).
