The San Francisco Symphony plans to honor its Music Director Laureate, Michael Tilson Thomas, with a concert at Davies Symphony Hall to celebrate his 80th birthday. MTT turned 80 las Saturday.
The event, scheduled for April 26, is slated to feature Thomas conducting two works: Benjamin Britten’s The Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra and Ottorino Respighi’s Roman Festivals.
Additional program details and guest artists will be revealed closer to the date.
Thomas led the San Francisco Symphony for 25 years. He retired from the organization in 2020, before being diagnosis with brain cancer in 2021. After undergoing surgery and treatment he has continued to make guest appearances at the podium.
