In the 30th year after the death of Herbert von Karajan (16 July 1989), the Milan Scala commemorates the conductor. On 4 October, the Scala will dedicate a round table to Karajan, with the participation of Riccardo Chailly, Music Director of the Opera House. ‘The art of Herbert von Karajan – a way in the history of interpretation’ is the title of the event.
The close relationship between Karajan and the Scala was highlighted in a press release published by the Opera House. « Between 1940 and 1971, Karajan shaped the history of our theatre, » said the Scala.
The maestro conducted 15 different operas and made his debut at the Scala as opera conductor in 1948 with Le Nozze di Figaro. Most legendary is his Lucia di Lammermoor with Maria Callas.
