The score of Sir Malcolm Arnold’s 7th Symphony has been rediscovered by his family on eBay. The British composer (1921-2006), known for having composed the Oscar-winning music for the film ‘The Bridge Over the River Kwai’, has given birth to nine symphonies, with the seventh missing until now. His family thinks, he gave the score away in 1973 whilst suffering a mental episode. He battled from manic depression, schizophrenia and alcoholism much of his adult life.
“It is extraordinary to have it back … it was very emotional,” daughter Katherine Arnold has told The Telegraph. The score will be open for public viewing at Eton College, the family have said.
