Tomorrow, a new monument for Dmitri Shostakovich will be unveiled at the main entrance to the Moscow International House of Music. The festivities mark the 40th anniversary of the composer’s death. The memorial was created by Georgy Frangulyan.
Shostakovich is presented sitting with bowed head, composing. « The bronze statue is not a bravura monument », says the artist. « I wanted to show the creator, the creative energy, the moment of birth of music, the genius … « . The inauguration on Thursday will be followed by a concert from the Russian National Philharmonic Orchestra under Vladimir Spivakov.
