Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
The last Mozartkugel production facilities in Salzburg have been closed. The Salzburg Schokolade company, owner of the Mirabell brand, which also includes Mozartkugeln, had already filed for insolvency in 2021.
The factory was taken over by a group of companies based in Romania. However, even the new owners were unable to get out of the red. As the Austrian newspaper ‘Kurier’ reports, high costs for raw materials and packaging materials as well as energy were the main reasons.
According to the Kurier, production could continue at another location, but it is not clear where.
However, the Mirabell Mozartkugeln are not the only ones in Austria. There are original Mozartkugeln from the Austrian confectioner Fürst.
