Schuberts Messe in F-Dur, die so genannte Deutsche Messe D. 872, ist das Hauptwerk dieser CD-Produktion. Der Text stammt vom Auftraggeber Johann Philipp Neumann, der Schubert für diese Komposition 100 Gulden zahlte. Die Komposition ist ganz gewiss weniger originell als Schuberts andere Messen. Das wird in dieser innigen, getragenen Interpretation besonders deutlich, denn Franz-Xaver Jans, seine Sänger und Musiker kommen in dem etwas kompakten, mulmigen und wenig transparenten Klangbild nicht besonders gut zur Geltung.
Man hat diese Messe schon klarer, konturierter, kontrastreicher und farbiger gehört. Leider kann mich der Rest des Programms auch nicht begeistern.
Schubert’s Mass in F major, the so-called Deutsche Messe D. 872, is the main work of this CD production. The text is by the patron Johann Philipp Neumann, who paid Schubert 100 florins for this composition. The composition is certainly less original than Schubert’s other masses. This is particularly evident in this intimate, sustained interpretation, as Franz-Xaver Jans, his singers and musicians do not come across particularly well in the somewhat compact, mulish and less than transparent sound.
One has heard this mass clearer, more contoured, more contrasting and more colorful. Unfortunately, the rest of the program cannot inspire me either.
