Warmia – deutsch Ermland – ist ein Gebiet im heutigen polnischen Ostpreussen, in dem sich die Stadt Olsztyn mit seinem theologischen Seminar befindet. In der Bibliothek dieses Seminars wurde ein Konvolut von rund 800 Kompositionen entdeckt, von denen einige nun auf dem ersten Album der Reihe Musica Warmiensis zu hören sind.
Die Interpretationen der Cappella Warmiensis Restituta und der Vokalsolisten überzeugen durch ihren schlanken Duktus und die angestrebte klangliche Transparenz, die allerdings durch den halligen Klang der Basilika in Frombork etwas verschwimmt.
Zudem führt der im Grunde wohltuende Verzicht auf zu viele Affekte im Endresultat dann doch zu gleich klingenden, neutralen Darbietungen.
Warmia is an area in today’s Polish East Prussia, where the city of Olsztyn with its theological seminary is located. In the library of this seminary a volume of about 800 compositions was discovered, some of which can now be heard on the first album of the series Musica Warmiensis.
The interpretations of the Cappella Warmiensis Restituta and the vocal soloists are convincing in their slender ductus and the intended transparency, which is, however, somewhat blurred by the reverberant sound of the basilica in Frombork.
Moreover, the basically pleasant renunciation of too many affects finally leads to much too neutral performances.
