Das Czech National Symphony Orchestra spielt unter seinem Chefdirigenten Steven Mercurio ein ganzes Programm mit Musik für Streicherensemble. Der britische Schmalz wird in der Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis abgewischt, und stattdessen staffiert Mercurio Vaughan-Williams’ Bestseller mit einem schlanken und eher schlichten Klang aus.
Dvoraks Streicherserenade wird elegant und gefühlvoll musiziert, aber man das Werk schon mitreißender gehört.
Barbers 1936 von Arturo Toscanini uraufgeführtes Adagio for Strings erklingt in einer sehr inspirierten und bewegenden, aber nie sentimentalen Interpretation.
Zum Abschluss dirigiert Mercurio ein eigenes Stück, das melancholische Eulogy.
Die Musik wurde von der Tontechnik dicht, transparent und sehr natürlich eingefangen: Das Klangbild ist herausragend.
The Czech National Symphony Orchestra, under its principal conductor Steven Mercurio, plays an entire program of music for string ensemble. The British schmaltz is wiped away in the Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis, and instead Mercurio has Vaughan-Williams’ best-selling work played with a lean and rather unpretentious sound.
Dvorak’s String Serenade is elegantly and sensitively performed, but more exciting interpretations of this work are available.
Barber’s Adagio for Strings, premiered by Arturo Toscanini in 1936, is heard in a very inspired and moving but never sentimental interpretation.
Mercurio concludes by conducting a piece of his own, the melancholy Eulogy.
The music was captured on the sound engineering tight, transparent and very natural: The recorded sound is outstanding.
