Amid a nasty controversy about his salary and allegations of fraud, with subsequent police investigation, conductor Myung-Whun Chung decided to not renew his contract as chief conductor of the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra. Yet, he told the press in Seoul, that he is willing to continue with scheduled concerts if the orchestra and audience want it. Chung has led the Seoul Philharmonic since 2006. The current situation is the consequence of Chung’s problems with the former head of the orchestra, Hyun-Jung Park, after he was in solidarity with musicians who accused Park of verbal abuse and gender discrimination. Park quit, but never stopped to create confusion around the orchestra and its music director.
