The New York Philharmonic Orchestra has temporarily suspended two orchestra members, trumpeter Matthew Muckey and oboist Liang Wang from rehearsals and performances over allegations of sexual abuse in 2010 published by the New York Magazine. Brass player Cara Kizer was allegedly drugged and raped by them at the time. The accused were fired for a time, but both continued to deny they were guilty of misconduct and appealed to their union, which reached their goal and the two musicians have been playing in the orchestra again since 2020.
There is also an open letter to Union Local 802 circulating calling for action, which several hundred of musicians, composers, teachers and others have signed.
